Acting Final Project WIP

Image
The scene begins with a simple, but effective transitional framing device. The previous scene left a feeling of heroism and epicness since the two main characters, Vi and Powder, were framed against a gorgeous city they want to make "respect them". Then we transition to a chair that frames the main subject of the last scene so that the eye of the audience will smoothly follow what needs to be seen and understood. Then we notice the dark blues and jagged teeth on the chair which instantly signals to the audience that we are going into a very different tone and scene. Something seems "fishy".       After a slow zoom out and a very quick pause, we then get exactly only 4 frames of sudden movement of a man being thrown into the chair. The scene cuts to the chair being pushed back with many leading lines toward the subject in the center.            As the feet stomp down and act as more vertical fr...

Final Project Idea: Visual Storytelling: Arcane's Character Acting

Image
Idea 1: Analysis of League of Legend's and Netflixs' Tv Show "Arcane" 1.  It is acting related? Yes, there is all kinds of acting to push the visual storytelling forward. 2.  How can your classmates learn something relevant? For animators, Arcane is a 3D animated show with a treasure trove worth of smart, efficient, and nuanced acting. Studying how they do it will help give students more ideas and acting philosophies to apply to their own work. 3.  What original content will you provide. I plan to analyze one character dialogue scene from each act (1,2, and 3). I will be drawing on notes and diagrams to help highlight movement from frame to frame. There will also be at least one chart depicting the small acting and story beats and how they align together to make the scene thematically consistent and flowing. There will be other smaller notes such as design details for background knowledge and how it all enhances visual storytelling. Most of the analysis will be on the...

Character Analysis Study - Luffy's Despair in Baron Omatsuri

Image
Luffy's Despair in "Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island"      Monkey D. Luffy is the happy-go-lucky protagonist of the hit series "One Piece". He also stars in the 6th spin-off movie "One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island" in 2005. Compared to all the other spin-off movies and main stories, Luffy and the StrawHat crew are put in a different, darker story than the usual adventures. Despite the non-canon status of the movie story, the entire character arc for Luffy is a direct honoring to past and future events in the canon main story. This added depth to Luffy's character and psyche is achieved to great success thanks to Mamoru Hosoda's direction in acting and writing. Luffy Bio: Name: Monkey D. Luffy Gender: Male Age: 17 Family: Monkey D. Dragon, Ace, Sabo, the entire StrawHat crew, everyone in his hometown Cultural background: homeless in the woods or with forest thieves Intelligence (IQ): Combat Genius, subtly emotionally intellig...

"The Present" by Jacob Frey and Markus Kranzler Team 4: Adora Tran, Josecarlo Torres, Li Zhu, Dylan Wheeler, Shion Takeshita Synopsis : A little boy plays video games all the time. One day, his mother gives him a present in the form of a three-legged puppy. At first, the boy is disgusted and annoyed at the puppy's presence and form. Later on, he becomes inspired by the puppy's optimistic attitude and leaves the couch to go play with the puppy outside. This reveals that the little boy is also handicapped.  1.    Progression  Through the creation of the atmosphere of the scene and the progression of the story, the film shows us the changes in the protagonist's mood while furthering the development of the story. From the beginning, the boy resists contact with the outside world and repels the puppy. In the middle, he began to pay attention to the puppy's behavior and was inspired by it. Eventually, he stood up and walked outside into the sun with the...
