Final Project Idea: Visual Storytelling: Arcane's Character Acting
Idea 1: Analysis of League of Legend's and Netflixs' Tv Show "Arcane"
1. It is acting related?
Yes, there is all kinds of acting to push the visual storytelling forward.
2. How can your classmates learn something relevant?
For animators, Arcane is a 3D animated show with a treasure trove worth of smart, efficient, and nuanced acting. Studying how they do it will help give students more ideas and acting philosophies to apply to their own work.
3. What original content will you provide.
I plan to analyze one character dialogue scene from each act (1,2, and 3). I will be drawing on notes and diagrams to help highlight movement from frame to frame. There will also be at least one chart depicting the small acting and story beats and how they align together to make the scene thematically consistent and flowing. There will be other smaller notes such as design details for background knowledge and how it all enhances visual storytelling. Most of the analysis will be on the acting though.
An example:
Powder throws a monkey to the wall and the head bounces off. She's crying already, but after seeing the head bounce off, she screams even harder and pushes her head downwards into her hands. A natural leading line to look at the head which will come up again later. Through optimal usage of rule of thirds, the audience is easily led to where their eyes should be and following the action. This helps makes the acting more believable and natural.
4. Will you work alone or will you do it as a team.
alone
5. Think of it as a TED Talk presentation
. How will you make it outstanding?TED
Not only will there be unique analysis by me, but also criticisms and discussions of other ways the acting could've been.
